Wye, T -Adult Flute Student

An adult student presents different problems that a young beginner.  A young teacher starting out in the profession may be intimidated by an older pupil.  From the teacher's point of view, most students are young, impressionable and easy to deal with;  children usually accept facts without question and though inquisitive, fall into the role of 'being taught'.  The adult has left that role behind and is usually more inquisitive about what they have to do and why they are doing it.  Curiously, this can slow down learning and progress.

Children are often helped in their practice routine by parents.  The adult player, after the initial burst of enthusiasm may need coaxing to do regular practice, without which progress will be slow.
