THE 3 GENERATIONS

Axel Svitzer (1923-2001) was educated as a pianist at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music from which he graduated in 1943. After World War II, Axel travelled abroad to Sweden and was employed as a piano professor at the Malmoe Conservatory of Music. After 20 years, he returned to Denmark where in 1963 he became the senior lecturer at the College of Education in Haslev. Here he introduced the Kodály solmization system from Hungary. The interest awakened by this led him to write and publish several instruction books. But Axel wanted to start his own music company, and together with his son Henrik, he founded the Svitzer Music Publishing House (later called Edition Svitzer) in 1986.

Henrik Svitzer also attended the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music. He graduated as a flutist in 1971. Later, he continued his studies in the USA with Marcel Moyse, and was employed as an associate creative performer at the State University of New York, Buffalo, in 1977. He was the winner of the "East and West Annual Competition for Young Performers" in New York and the prize led to his debut at Carnegie Hall the following year. Subsequently, he held the position of solo flutist in the Royal Danish Orchestra for 21 years. Since 2002, Henrik has been working on a project called "Music Dialogue between Denmark & Ukraine", which has resulted in strong ties with leading musicians and composers from Eastern Europe. Henrik is presently employed as an associate professor at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music, and teacher at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense, Denmark. These activities compliment his work with Edition Svitzer.

Johan Svitzer studied classical percussion at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense, Denmark. While studying at the conservatory, he frequently performed with leading Danish symphony orchestras. This led in 2001, to his to playing as the solo percussionist in the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Johan now bends his energies to running Edition Svitzer with his father, Henrik. It is Johan’s wish to keep the good qualities of the traditional while adding new features to better serve today’s composers and musicians
