Reinecke - Ballade Op. 288 for Flute and Piano Breitkopf & Haertel *New Edition*
Description:
Carl Reinecke was keen to explore music and not just "snack" on it. It is clear from numerous statements that he approved of small deviations in the musical text in parallel passages and even enjoyed them. Alignment - Reinecke calls it applanation or leveling - has been largely avoided in this edition. It is based on the first edition of the orchestral parts on the one hand and on the composer's original version for flute and piano on the other, the only surviving source in which the solo part is included. By not aligning the different versions but rather comparing them in the score and in the piano reduction that matches the edition, users are made to deal with the two versions more easily by being able to make direct comparisons. At the same time, this edition offers a consistent musical text that is suitable for today's orchestral practice.
