With the present variations, Friedrich Silcher (1789-1860) worked on a theme from the opera "La Molinara" (The Miller's Lady) composed by Giovanni Paisiello in 1788. With the text "I flee all joys" this melody is also known in Germany and has almost become a folk song.
Friedrich Silcher, who is known today primarily as a composer of folk songs, shows a precise knowledge of the possibilities on the flute and knows how to develop beautiful-sounding and interesting variations from the simple, lyrical theme, while also having very different characteristics.
"Silcher once differently": One of the few instrumental compositions by the composer is presented to the musician again with this edition (formerly in the series "Das 19. Jahrhundert", out of print for several years).
