About this Book - Special Introductory Price

This technical workbook was developed as a complementary resource to School Band Programs where students attend a weekly 1 hour band rehearsal and a 30 minute group tutorial (or similar) which often caters to varying ages and abilities. This resource can also be used to complement teaching undertaken in a 1-1 setting in association with a band text or program.

The aim of this book is to assist with bridging the technical gap that students who do not learn in a one to one lesson often experience. Additionally, this resource will cater to the needs of students who find their particular group is moving too slowly (or too quickly) for them by providing lots of important information that expands their musical knowledge as well as providing additional challenges. There is a chart at the back of the book where teachers are able to mark each level completed should they wish to formalise completion of each level.

Conductors and teachers, please be aware that this book works through the notes and keys in a similar order to that introduced through the majority of band method books rather than taking a more traditional approach to learning. This will assist young band musicians in quickly and confidently attaining proficiency in the keys and scale patterns that they will most often come across in their wind band repertoire.

It is anticipated that students would also engage in tone development exercises as a part of their warm up session at the beginning of tutorials with guidance by their teacher using both the exercises in this book and additional exercises set by their teachers.

This method can be used to contribute to the teaching and learning outcomes associated with the following New South Wales Syllabus documents:

• Creative Arts K-6 Syllabus

• Music 7-10 Syllabus

• English K-10 Syllabus

• Mathematics K-10 Syllabus.

A brief outline of the relevant New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) Syllabi outcome references is available to assist schools with programming should they wish to incorporate this resource. The "Grow Your Technique Educational Outcomes Support Document" is available on request.
