Breitkopf & Härtel, founded in 1719, is the oldest music publishing company in the world. Already dealing with leading composers in the 18th century, Breitkopf continues this tradition today. “Breitkopf Pädagogik” stands for new music-pedagogical concepts. “Breitkopf Urtext” guarantees musicological flawless editions for interpreters.
Musica Rara was founded in London in 1950. The publisher's program soon took on a clear profile with wind literature of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries: an area which was under-represented by publishers until then. Breitkopf & Härtel acquired the publishing house in 2000, and since then has been continuing the Musica Rara program in a separate catalogue through improved reprints and new editions.
