Hortus Musicus
“Hortus Musicus,” in English “musical garden”, comprises a series of chamber music compositions from the early baroque to the 19th century. The first edition contains the following text:
“Hortus musicus is to be enjoyed like a garden and experienced like a visitor taking a stroll. Numerous expert editors work on these editions which contain nothing but worthwhile music published in flawless editions. Hortus Musicus early music friends a wealth of musical joys within their reach.”
The first edition, published in 1950, was Johann Sebastian Bach’s aria „Unschuld, Kleinod reiner Seelen”. Alongside well-known compositions, the series also includes long-forgotten works. In keeping with baroque performance practice, almost all the compositions can be performed in different scorings. At present, the series contains 280 titles.
