A single-movement cello concerto in which three parts are played without interruption. It was written in 1872, a time when the composer was publishing many masterpieces, and was premiered at the Paris Conservatory in January 1873 with Auguste Torbeck's solo cello. It is one of the important repertoire for cellists, which is designated as an assignment song in music college entrance exams and competitions.
It is accompanied by a suggestive bow and fingering by Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, a leading cellist in Japan.
