David first came to Australia from the U.K. at the age of 21, aboard the P&O ship ‘Oriana’ as a resident pianist on the ship, and again later on the ‘Canberra’, and finally, as band-leader on the ’Orcades’, before emigrating to Sydney in 1968.
After working at Palings music shop in Sydney, where he sold pianos, he soon found work as a professional musician and has had many years experience as a recording session keyboard player, composer and arranger. He has played on hundreds of radio and TV commercials, and recording sessions of all kinds.
Over the years David has travelled widely as musical director for a number of well known artists. He has worked in the U.K. Las Vegas, Tokyo (6 months at the Hilton Hotel) and has also been musical director for the following shows: Hot Shoe Shuffle (1997, Brisbane) Ain’t Misbehavin’ (1993 Theatre Royal, Sydney) Have A Go Show (Channel 7 ).
Moving from Sydney to the Gold Coast in 1994, he was resident pianist at Terranora Lakes Country Club and has worked in many of the major clubs on the Gold Coast. He has also performed on occasions with the Queensland Pops Orchestra and with many of the local Gold Coast male and female jazz and cabaret singers.
David has been a part time teacher in Jazz Piano at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University) Brisbane. He was also a teacher in the contemporary music department at Southern Cross University in Lismore, Northern New South Wales, teaching piano, keyboards and music technology (sequencing). David gained his A.Mus.A. Diploma in pianoforte in 1997, however his preference is to play contemporary music with a jazzy flavour.
David is also a prolific composer, producing music for iconic TV documentaries including Jack Absalom’s Australia – a 6 part series, Blood, Sweat and Tears – a 13 part series, The Big Bandicoot – ABC TV and This Land Australia a 12 part series with Ted Egan.
David’s albums include: Alternate Route, Harbour Crossing, Over The Moon and Smooth Sailing which are available on this website. He has also released many C.D’s for Universal Music (U.K.) and Adrenalin Sounds (Sydney, Australia) music libraries which are used all over the world as background music to TV documentaries and commercials, etc.
He continues to perform, compose and arrange music in a variety of genres.
