This charming piece was composed for the choir of Hereford Cathedral in 1907, Elgar setting words written by his wife. Originally for 2 sopranos (soli or chorus) 2 violins and piano, its textures translate beautifully for flutes. The opening (optional) Prelude is lush textured and rich, and soon gives way to a lilting Allegretto, with soaring, lyrical lines, and a lightness of touch in the accompaniment. A gem of a piece!
