"And what Alice found there..."
Peter Cork (1926-2012) was a British Composer who, after training as a music teacher, went on to study composition with Gordon Jacob at the Royal College of Music. He enjoyed a long career as a well respected teacher and composer, with Dudley Moore famously amongst his students. His love of film music is very evident in this little suite, with its sweeping tunes, lush 'English' harmonies and twinkling humour. Although the three movements, Prelude - Into the dream, Jabberwocky, and Humpty Dumpty are full of contrasting character, the latter two movements sometimes draw on themes from the first movement, giving a filmic coherence to this charming set.
