Variations on a Theme by Haydn, arranged here by Mark A. Popkin for Piccolo, Double Wind Quintet, and String Bass, was originally composed by Johannes Brahms in 1873, based on a piece title "Chorale St. Anthoni." Although it is disputed whether or not this chorale was actually composed by Joseph Haydn, the resulting set of variations have since become quite well-known and popular.
Instrumentation:
- Piccolo
- 2 Flutes
- 2 Oboes
- 2 Clarinets
- 2 Horns
- 2 Bassoons
- String Bass (or Contrabassoon, ad lib.)
