(L'Adieu des Bergers) from L'Enfance du Christ.

This beautiful carol depicts the shepherds saying goodbye to Jesus as the Holy family leave Bethlehem for Egypt.  In this setting, the first verse is true to the original work, and in the second verse the carol is heard as a trio, with a solo flute adding a descant. The introduction to each verse and the closing few bars may be played by solo players in a larger group for variety.
