Schumann - Romances Op. 94 for clarinet

Schumann - Romances Op. 94 for clarinet

Regular price $23.95 Sale

Robert Schumann's work in 1849 resulted in several important works for wind players. Fantasiestucke, op. 73 for clarinet and piano, as well as Adagio and Allegro, op. 70 for horn and piano were both written within a single week in February. On December 7, 11 and 12, he completed Drei Romanzen, op. 94 for oboe and piano, reportedly, as a Christmas present for his wife, Clara.

The manuscript presented to Robert Schumann's wife has been lost. However, Clara Schumann edited the complete works of her husband, which were published by Breitkopf & Hartel, starting in 1878. Our current edition, edited by John Anderson, is based on Clara Schumann's edition with only a few minor changes in articulations, made for consistency.

Although Schumann conceived this music for oboe and piano, the original publication also included optional solo parts for violin and clarinet. This attractive music has appealed to other instrumentalists as well and is now also published in versions for flute, saxophone, and cello. The Jeanne edition on this screen page has parts for clarinet in A and piano, and an alternate solo part for clarinet in B-flat. The item number of the Jeanne edition for oboe and piano is JP1044.
